ports - Concerning Tor relays, what is the difference between ORPort and DirPort? -

i'm setting relay , understanding orport required open relay traffic outside world need enable dirport too?

no, don't need enable dirport. if set dirport, relay serve directory mirror.

as directory mirror other relays can query information other relays on network (for example list of relays building circuits).

note enabling can increase bandwidth usage (full directory listings can large) , you'll have lot more incoming connections. example, 1 of relays serving mirror has on 1200 incoming connections dir requests , pushes 10-20 mbps result.

i believe bandwidthrate option includes limiting directory traffic (which separate relaybandwidthrate).

if want run relay, it's fine leave dirport 0 can dedicate bandwidth relaying. there lot of relays running mirrors think capacity them pretty good, running 1 when possible encouraged.
