visual studio extensions - Analogue of background thread in VSIX project? -


basically, i'm trying carry out number of tasks while visual studio instance running.

i have not been able find yet in visual studio sdk reference analogous background thread or isrunning or that. can far respond specific events such view changing or cursor being moved.

i don't understand event fires when visual studio instance finishes loading.

surely there must pretty big i'm missing here? manages lifecycle of visual studio instance?

so nothing prevents launching background thread , doing work there. sorts of components time. there ways can register package load in various scenarios, , there launch thread.

be careful of course of these -- if did "i'll run background thread once vs loads", cpu cores very, busy! there's older concept in vs called "idle loop" code can registered run whenever ui thread doesn't have message pump, , internal joke idle loop never idle.
